Dealing with flight disruptions can be quite upsetting. However, the good news is that the European Union has laws to help travelers when things get messed up. If you’re flying in the EU, it’s a good idea to understand these regulations. They can be useful if your flight is disrupted.

These protections are known as air passenger rights, which are legal entitlements under EU law that safeguard travelers in cases of flight cancellations, delays, and overbookings.

Understanding your rights can make managing travel complications less stressful. While it won’t make your flight go any faster, it can help you feel less stressed when things go wrong.

Passenger Rights under EU Regulation 261/2004

If your flight faces disruptions in the EU, you’ll get support. EU laws make sure airlines assist their passengers when things go wrong.

When flights are delayed or cancelled, airlines must offer you:

  • Food and drinks;
  • A hotel room if you’re stranded overnight;
  • Alternative transportation if your flight is cancelled or significantly delayed;
  • Two free phone calls, emails, or faxes.

If you’re delayed for a long time or your flight is cancelled, you might also be entitled to:

  • A refund;
  • An alternative flight;
  • Compensation to make up for the inconvenience.

Remember to ask airline staff about these entitlements if your plans change. They have to tell you about your rights when there’s a significant delay or cancellation.

Air Horizont Flight Delay Compensation

Flight delays from Air Horizont can be really annoying. However there’s some good news: if you’re stuck waiting for more than three hours because of the airline’s fault, you might be able to get some compensation.

Laws in the UK and EU are in your favor. You could be eligible for up to €600 per person. What is important is when you arrive, not when you leave. So keep an eye on your arrival time if you want to seek flight delay compensation.

The amount you receive depends on your flight distance. A brief trip won’t yield as much as a longer flight, even if they’re both delayed for the same duration.

Interested in learning exactly how much you could get? Check out the table below to see how much money you might get:

Less than 3 hoursBetween 3-4 hoursOver 4 hoursDistance
€0€250€250All flights up to 1500 km

Air Horizont Flight Cancellation Compensation

The EU has regulations to help you if your flight gets cancelled. Here’s the important information:

In the event of a flight cancellation within two weeks of your planned travel date, you may be entitled to compensation of up to €600. But there’s a catch – the airline doesn’t have to pay if they can get you on another flight that doesn’t mess up your plans too much.

The carrier can bypass compensation if they arrange a replacement flight that meets the following conditions:

Advance NoticeRe-routing Requirements
14 DaysNone
7 – 13 DaysAlternative flight departing no more than 2 hours before and arriving less than 4 hours after the original flight
Less than 7 DaysAlternative flight departing no more than 1 hour before and arriving less than 2 hours after the original flight

If you agree to take an alternative flight from the airline, you can still receive compensation. The key factor is your arrival time at your destination.

The amount you could receive depends on a couple of points:

  1. The distance of your flight
  2. How late you arrive

As a result, even if the alternative flight is delayed, you may still receive some compensation.

Look at the table below for more information:

Under 2 hours2-3 hours3-4 hoursOver 4 hoursNever arrivedDistance
€125€250€250€250€250All flights 1,500 km or less
€200€200€400€400€400Internal EU flights over 1,500 km
€200€200€400€400€400Non-internal EU flights 1,500 km- 3,500 km
€300€300€300€600€600Non-internal EU flights over 3,500 km

The airline might not have to compensate you if they can provide transportation to your destination, close to the original schedule. Even if you’re just a little late, you might not be eligible for flight cancellation compensation.

No matter whether your flight was delayed due to operational issues or technical difficulties, if it was not caused by extraordinary circumstances like inclement weather or air traffic control decisions, you qualify for compensation.

Which Air Horizont Flights are Covered by EU261?

The EU’s air passenger protection laws are comprehensive in scope. They cover every flight leaving an airport in an EU member state and to all flights arriving at a European Union member state airport if the flight is operated by an EU airline.

ItineraryCovered by EU 261
Flights departing EU airports✅ Covered
Flights arriving at EU airports✅ Covered

These laws also include airlines from Norway, Switzerland, and Iceland. This means if you’re flying with any airline to, from, or within Europe, you probably have these rights. It’s helpful to understand these regulations – they exist to assist you if issues arise with your flight. They make sure you’re not abandoned when your trip arrangements don’t work out.

When You Are Not Entitled to Compensation

Air Horizont is not always at fault when flights are delayed or cancelled. Occasionally, things happen that the airline has no control over, like severe weather conditions or unforeseen issues.

For example, if there’s an abrupt major weather event, an airport emergency, or a strike by air traffic controllers, Air Horizont is not liable. These are called “extraordinary circumstances” that the airline is unable to prevent.

When these situations occur, you are unlikely to get any compensation. The airline isn’t seen as doing anything wrong when these unforeseen difficulties arise. However, Air Horizont must prove that the cancellation or delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances in order to avoid paying.
